I grew up on Salt Spring, left at eighteen and returned almost twenty years later with my own children. I write, illustrate, and publish the Fox and Fairies books.
Fox and Fairies is set on the fictional Maple Island, which is a product of my imagination, but draws from Salt Spring—a magical place. I live on a wild old apple orchard, surrounded by forest. As I write, I’m lucky to see trees and dark, starry skies out the window, hear owls calling, and at my favourite time of year, the frogs singing. I share a little of this magic in my books, which have subtle themes of kindness, courage, and hope woven among the burping fairies, opinionated dogs, and a tiny fox’s adventure.
